colectivo digs vakula!

this colectivo digs section is dedicated to the amazing house orientated music of an unusual suspect, hailing from an unexpected city in ukraine. mikhaylo vityk, known musically as Vakula, does not come from a town where house music is embedded in its culture, such as detroit or chicago; instead he is from an industrial city in northern ukraine called konotop. having only started producing in 2002, his output today can only be described as absolutely brilliant. from his first release on UK based label uzuri, you could tell his attention to details and ever present groove would give lots to talk about in the future.

further releases on deep house stalwarts such as quintessentials, firecracker recordings, and best works, served to cement Vakula‘s place among the best references of modern house music producers that not only hint at the past respectfully, but also look forward with originality and aplomb.

2011 has so far been a prolific year for the ukranian producer, with an abstract offering for canadian label archipel, a jazzy affair on 3rd strike records, a massive rehash of steve reich on white label (which you can hear below), and a forthcoming deeper-than-deep 10″ on firecracker’s new offshoot unthank. it’s safe to say that we at colectivo futuro are massively expectant of what the future will provide via the talented hands of mr. Vakula!
