colectivo digs seabear!

last month’s front runner for most-listened-to band a colectivo futuro’s HQ is non other than icelandic septet Seabear. currently signed to notorious berlin-based indie label Morr Music, the band has recently released their second full length in the form of “we built a fire“. what started as a solo project for Sindri Már Sigfússon, has slowly morphed into a striking ensemble of multi-faceted musicians, whose input is valued equally during the creative process. including members from iconic bands, such as sigur rós or múm, the band’s signature sound is a mixture of naive indie folk, fragile experimental, and icelandic DIY pop.

another cool aspect about the band is the fact that all artwork and videos (seen below) are hand made by Sindri’s partner and band mate Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir, which helps tie their sound and visual aesthetic perfectly together. despite their multi-instrumental lineup, Seabear‘s music is not one to blow you away, instead their productions will captivate your heart with their introspective, lo-fi approach.

we truly recommend you check them out! you can do so via spotify or their own website

colectivo digs toro y moi!

we are kicking off a series of featured artist articles running monthly and solely based on our most recent last.fm charts. first up is columbia, south carolina based graphic designer and indietronica extraordinaire chaz bundick aka toro y moi. fueled mainly by his recently released debut album, “causers of this“, on carpark records, chaz’s music caught our attention instantly with its folky infused electronic landscapes.

toro y moi’s lo-fi production aesthetic, centered around guitar riffs, piano layers, and heavily treated samples; has received critical acclaim from various related media outlets, such as bbc, pitchfork, and resident advisor (click on links for full reviews). regardless of the hype around him, we were nevertheless drawn to his music, thanks to a sonic melting pot carrying influences from the likes of “animal collective, sonic youth, j dilla, and daft punk”.

listen to the album on spotify or purchase it from either amazon or boomkat.
